The single most effective thing you can do with young children on move day: pick one room and set it up completely before the crew touches anything else. Crib or toddler bed assembled, familiar stuffed animals out, snacks and sippy cups ready, tablet charged. Tell the crew to work this room last. Children need one anchor of normalcy; once it exists, the rest of the chaos is background noise.
For babies: slings and carriers keep infants contained and happy while you supervise. For toddlers: a 20-minute "help the movers" phase (carrying small soft items) burns energy and gives them ownership, then set them up in the base camp.
Kids' rooms should be packed last and unpacked first. School backpacks, medication, comfort items, car seat, and the first-night bag (pajamas, toothbrush, one toy) ride in your personal vehicle — never on the truck. Strollers and bike helmets go on the truck but are loaded last so they're first off.
Proof of address (utility bill or lease), immunization records, most recent report card, and the previous school's withdrawal form. LAUSD enrollment is done at the school office. Keep one folder with copies of all documents — you'll show it 3–4 times in the first week.
