The question that decides a packing quote is not square footage, it is box count — and almost everyone underestimates it by about a third. These are the counts our packers actually use when loading a van with supplies:

The mix matters as much as the count. Roughly four in ten are mediums, which carry most of a household; a quarter are smalls, because books and tools in a large box become a box nobody can lift; two in ten are larges for linens, pillows and lampshades; the rest are dish packs with double walls and cell dividers, plus a few wardrobes so hanging clothes travel on the hanger and need no ironing at the other end.
Two rooms consistently take longer than people expect: the kitchen, which is about a quarter of all packing time on its own, and the garage, where nothing is a standard shape. If you want to pack some yourself and hire out the rest, hand us those two.
