The honest answer is that a local LA move costs as much as the hours it takes — but those hours are predictable once you know the rates and what's included. Here's the real 2026 picture, with nothing hidden.

The rates

Local moves are billed hourly by crew size: $88/hr for 2 movers and a truck, $128/hr for 3, and $168/hr for 4, with a 3-hour minimum. The rate already includes the truck, fuel, moving blankets, shrink wrap, tape, basic assembly and stairs — so there are no fuel surcharges or "heavy item" fees added at the door. California's double-drive-time rule adds the doubled driving time between your two addresses, which we explain on every quote.

What it works out to

By home size, typical all-in totals are: studio $200–$300 (2–3 hrs), one-bedroom $300–$400 (3–4 hrs), two-bedroom $560–$840 (4–6 hrs with a 3-mover crew), three-bedroom $840–$1,440 (6–8 hrs), and a four-bedroom house $1,440–$1,800. Add professional packing at $40/hr per packer if you want it done for you.

How to keep it low

Be fully boxed before the crew arrives, book mid-week and mid-month, reserve parking or your elevator in advance, and declutter first so you're not paying to move things you'll discard. Long-distance and interstate moves are priced differently (by distance and weight). Use our cost calculator for your specific move or get a free written quote.
